Surface

Surfaces should be clean and free from dust, dirt, grease, oil and old paints. Medium or heavy rusted portions must be prepared by wire brush to remove flaky, scaly and loose rust which is not sound or tightly adhered.

(1) When using Rustgard RG-010, always decant the desired amount into a plastic or non-rusted container. Shake and stir well before use. Never return surplus Rustgard to the original container. The original container must be kept tightly closed.

(2) Apply Rustgard when humidity is greater than 40-50%. In very dry and hot conditions, it is recommended to damp down the area to be primed.

APPLICATION

RG-010

(1) Best applied by brush to achieve better penetration of rusted surfaces, but Rustgardcan be applied by roller or spray.

(2) Apply Rustgard when air temperatures are between 5° C and 40° C and relative humidity between 40 – 95 %.

(3) The preferred method of application by brush is, thin even coats.

(4) RG- 010, when applied, is buff or milky coloured. The colour gradually changes within 20 – 25 mins to blue / black which indicates that the chemical reaction with rust is taking place. Where the surface is clean (non rusted), Rustgard will take on a transparency.

(5) RG-010 will touch dry in normal conditions within 1 hour. Carry out top coat applications only after RG-010 is touch-dried. Water-based topcoats can be applied after 6 hrs and overcoats of solvent-based materials only after 24hrs.

(6) Wash brushes, rollers and sprayers immediately after use. All spray lines must be cleaned with water before Rustgard dries as once dry, Rustgard is difficult to remove.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

This product is considered to be non-hazardous. However, kindly ensure that operators understand the health & safety precautions mentioned in the Material Safety Data Sheet before using Rustgard.
